About Lekkside

We keep our rooms small — on purpose.

Since 2006 we have brought accredited international institutions and African families into the same room, in numbers small enough that everyone actually gets a conversation.

Why we work this way

The biggest fair is rarely the best one.

The international recruitment industry measures itself in footfall. Booth counts, gate numbers, attendance records. It is an easy number to publish and a difficult one to act on.

We went the other way. A Lekkside fair hosts between three and eight institutions — never more. Each one sees around fifty students who registered in advance, were counselled before the day, and arrived with their certificates in a folder.

A student is not queuing behind four hundred others for ninety seconds of attention; they sit down and are properly assessed. An institution is not shouting over two hundred competitors. Applications get made on the day, not promised and forgotten.

It means we will never be the largest education fair in Africa, and we have stopped describing ourselves that way. What we can claim is that the conversations are real — and twenty years of institutions coming back suggests that matters more.

How we work

Five rules we do not bend

Most of these cost us money in the short term. They are the reason institutions and families both keep coming back.

01

Institutions only — no agencies on the floor

Third-party recruiters, domestic agencies and alumni-run agencies cannot exhibit. Registered agents may assist an institution, but no agent branding, uniforms or materials appear at a stand. A student always knows exactly who they are speaking to.

02

The room stays capped

Three to eight institutions per fair. We turn away revenue to hold that line, because the moment a room gets crowded the format stops working for everyone in it.

03

Students arrive prepared, not just present

Everyone registers in advance and is counselled before the day, so they turn up knowing what to ask and carrying the documents that let an institution assess them on the spot.

04

Free for students, always

Entry costs nothing and never has. We are paid by the institutions that exhibit, which means no family is ever charged for access to information they need.

05

Every number has a source

Our market research cites UNESCO, the World Bank, WENR and Campus France with reference years. Where sources disagree, we publish both figures rather than the flattering one.
